What is QEYnet?

QEYnet is a commercial enterprise whose mission is to build the world's first global quantum key distribution network, thereby enabling a new era of ultra-secure communication.

Why is QEYnet Needed?

The world has a looming security problem. The world relies on encryption to keep its secrets, move its money and ensure its security. But the mathematical backbone of the current gold standard, public key encryption, is in danger of being broken. Quantum computers capable of breaking public keys are inevitable. In response, those who value security most highly are building networks dedicated to the next gold-standard in encryption, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). QKD uses the security inherent in the quantum nature of photons to create unhackable encryption keys. But those networks have a problem. Much beyond 100km and losses in the fiber optic cable used to build them becomes too great. To compensate, what are known as ‘trusted nodes’ are built along the way, and then need to be secured. It is a brute force approach, and one that cannot practically be scaled as the world will need.

What is QEYnet's Solution?

QEYnet intends to take those static trusted nodes and make them dynamic by putting them onboard spacecraft in low Earth orbit where they can cover the entire planet. Here is how it works:

How are keys kept secure?

Each QEYnet spacecraft has two halves, the bus and the QKD payload. Quantum keys are generated and stored within the payload where the bus has no means to access them. When quantum keys are relayed to the ground, they are first encrypted (via quantum key) before being transferred to the spacecraft bus. Neither the bus nor anyone at QEYnet has the means to decrypt it since only the customer, who generated it in the first place, has the key.

How much does it cost?

To integrate seamlessly with existing systems, QEYnet provides ultra-secure encryption keys only, allowing customers the flexibility to use their preferred encryption method. Customers are charged on a key-by-key basis depending on the length of the key required. At the standard service level customers make shared use of a QEYnet spacecraft. At the premium service level customers are provided with dedicated use of one or more QEYnet satellites. For pricing, please contact QEYnet.

Who is QEYnet?

QEYnet was founded by a group of aerospace engineers who have built their careers designing small, low-cost, but highly-capable spacecraft. Their experience and industry connections put QEYnet in a position to offer first-to-market satellite-based QKD at a fraction of the cost of anyone else in the world.
