QEYnet is excited to be part of the Reliable and Agile Quantum Key Distribution Networks and Beyond project! Led by the University of Waterloo, this project was recently awarded almost $3M of funding by the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces through the Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security program. We look forward to working with UW and other project partners to utilize QEYnet's satellite QKD expertise in the development of next-generation QKD networking technologies.

On Monday, October 8, QEYnet’s CEO, Cordell Grant presented a pitch at Starburst Aerospace Accelerator’s annual East Coast Selection Committee event. Starburst is an aerospace-focused accelerator that brings together startups and established companies across the aerospace spectrum. We had a great response to our pitch and we were able to learn more about the problems that other aerospace startups are solving.

This was the largest year yet at SecTor, Canada’s premier IT security conference. Representatives from QEYnet attended the expo and met many of the exhibitors, some of whom are beginning to think about how the post-quantum threat will affect them and their customers.
The inaugural Post-Quantum Cyber Security Technologies Conference was held at the University of Toronto on November 9th. The keynote speaker was Prof. Hoi-Kwong Lo who holds a Canada Research Chair in Quantum Information at the University of Toronto. In his talk, he covered an overview of the current state of QKD research. A number of panel discussions were included in the event, including a panel on the “Next-Gen Cyber Security Technologies” where QEYnet’s Cordell Grant laid out the case for satellite QKD and our vision of how the technology will be developed in the future.
This year’s ETSI/IQC Quantum Safe Workshop was held in London, UK on September 13th to 15th. A large part of the event was focussed on a series of panel discussions tackling various issues surrounding post-quantum security. These included a panel with views from the governments of different countries on their approach to quantum-safe security and views of the future, the importance of standardization of post-quantum solutions, available technologies to deal with the quantum threat, and joint global efforts to tackling the quantum threat. In addition to this a number of individual talks were given including one from Lily Chan of NIST who gave an overview of that agency’s efforts to standardize post-quantum cryptography.
Cambridge University in the UK was this year’s host for the Qcyrpt conference. The conference took place on September 18th to 22nd and included various talks about exciting developments in QKD from researchers around the world. Of special interest to us was the inspirational talk from Cheggzhi Peng of UTSC on their satellite-based QKD program.
